First of all experienced jazz trumpet player since
1983, Etienne C
started in 95 his first radio soul-funk radio show for one year.
1997, after a 2 years road trip with several jazz and soul-funk
bands, he joined the Aye-Aye Festival’s team (alternatives
movies and musics festival). Here he created Whoua Art Gang , an
experimental jazz-funk big band of 25 musicians and met a frank
success as composer / conductor of the 98 Aye-Aye’s Opening.
Then he became the artistic director of the famous east France techno
club Terminal Export.
Sound
engineer of Frank Black (Pixies), Peter Hammill, Guem, The Fleshtones,
Tony Allen, Lake...
His dubby and original style found its final touch with the jamaïcan
reggae-dub of Ras Mickael, The Gladiators, The Abyssinians, The
Ethiopians, Big Youth, Dillinger, Max Romeo...
Elusive and yet immediately recognisable, this seems a fair description
of his sound, whether in wide deepness, as in his trip-hop sessions,
or in violent atmospherics in his techno and house sets. The trumpet
is drawn by his natural lyricism toward the two extremes of clear
statement and
remote alteration of the melody. The sweetness and hardness of the
mix resonate in sympathy with the trumpet’s solos; supple
and yet straining with effort, simultaneously clear and veiled by
some mysterious halo.
The
music of Etienne C constantly skirts the border of dreams, always
keepin’ dance floors in effervescence, and for this reason
is so captivating.
Mainly techno / House and Trip-Hop influenced, he’s the Terminal
Export’s resident deejay from December 1998 'till June 2002.
Since
4 years, Etienne C is playing all around the world his performer
concept : playing trumpet and mixing twice !
He play on different house, techno, jazz and trip-hop records with
Dj Bouto (LBA), Cabaret Electronic, and… alone
Etienne C also play with the must of international artists, as Moby,
Cyril K, Ken Ishii, The Herbaliser, Jérôme Pacman, Charles
Schillings, Get Fucked, Dj Kulu, Llorca, Alex Kid, Dj Antony, Sex
Toy, The Youngster, Laurent Hô, 69 DB, Cristal Distortion, Wide
Open Cage, Dj Spooky, Dj Krush, Alex Kid, Amon Tobin, Asian Dub Foundation
...
He's
